Winter encourages my inner introvert.  It forces me to slow down. The holidays are over and we’re into Winter for the long haul. I like to move into this next seasonal phase with Simple Winter Decor.

Here I’ll show you how I incorporated my Cathy’s Essentials to create a serene environment. A place that we can’t wait to come home to after a long day. I highly suggest you have these essentials in your personal stash to use throughout the year as I do!

My Mantle

I always begin my decorating with the mantle. It’s the focal point of our main floor and sets the precedent of the current vibe. When you walk into our home your eye is drawn here first. So, I like it to be a statement!

This year I had a few ideas on how I wanted this space to look. Simple. Easy. Clean. I love that it’s neutral enough to handle pops of color or I can let it just breathe.

My first style was to bring in some snowflakes and wooden garland. See? So easy! I kept the pine cone trees, candles and lambs ears from my Christmas Mantle and just moved them around a bit.

Then I tried a very monochromatic look. I wanted to cozy things up a bit so I laid down some white faux fir and added more candles. “Way too many candles!”, my Husband said. He felt like I was going to do a seance 🙂

Yeah, I can see that as well. So, down came a good handful of these beauties and after some rearranging I came up with this.

I was very happy with this look! It screamed simple winter decor to me. But, it was missing something. It needed more weight. I brought back the pine cone trees from my Christmas Mantle and added a branch ball that I found at the thrift store for $1.99!

Here’s the final style I settled on for this year. It’s a little more full than I anticipated but it gives me the warm fuzzies I was after. And it looks so beautiful at night.

My Entryway

For the entryway I wanted to keep the same feeling going. The grapevine wreath that hung over my Christmas Mantle found a new home in between the mirrors. The star is always in this spot so I just wired it to the wreath for a layered look. The cotton balls and flocked branch balls that were tucked in the Christmas tree came together inside a chicken wire basket.

You can see in the picture below how the mantle needed the pine cone trees (in the reflection) and branch ball to tie in with this side of the room.

To bring in a touch of color I added some lambs ears clips that were also on the Christmas tree. These were tucked around the topiary, inside the chicken wire basket and one in each lantern.

I created this wreath with a Christmas/Winter transition in mind a couple of months ago. I used some lambs ears and eucalyptus for the base and added some sparkly sprigs with pine cones and cotton stems from the local hobby store. See, it still works with the rest of my decor!

I’m really enjoying the simplicity of this space. This year’s simple winter decor has a clean color palette. It’s soothing during the day and so cozy in the evening by candlelight. Everything that was used I had on hand already in my stash; except the branch ball on the mantle.

I hope this post gives you some great ideas on how you can decorate for Winter. Often times it feels like the season that will never end! Create your own cozy space that you can hunker down in and enjoy for the next few months.
