You know when you want a nice glass of vino that won’t cause too much thought? When you just want to pour, sip and enjoy? This Cabernet Sauvignon was a nice surprise and did just that! It was a long day at work, the wind was howling and unwelcome. And, I was ready to pour a glass and relax for the evening at home.
I also support this company’s organic farming (below) and look forward to trying more wines from this maker.
My Notes
My nose detected subtle berries and oak. This was a nice start to “wine-ing down”. Deep inhale with my nose in the glass. Then the first taste. Very nice! The dryness was a nice reprieve from the past few reds I’ve had lately. And bonus, the flavor did not disappoint. I detected a distinct pepper flavor. There was no spice, just the flavor which I truly love (I’m a pepper-holic!) I found this Bonterra to be a great medium wine. Not watered down nor knock you in the face heavy. The finish did linger nicely as the Winemakers Notes below state.
This Cab held it’s own alongside dinner. And at $14 a bottle, this will make it into our collection for regular rotation!
Winemakers Notes
“This Cabernet offers aromas of bright cherry, currant and raspberry with notes of toasted oak and vanilla. In the glass, you will find flavors of cherry and currant and a lingering and thoughtful finish. Good structure, a moderate weight, polished tannins and balanced acidity.
Bonterra was founded on a philosophy that farming organically produces the purest, most flavorful fruit. This holistic approach balances the land and surrounding habitat of wasps, birds and wildlife to produce wines of unmatched flavor and distinction. The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon offers hints of black pepper, vanilla spice and rich berry-plum flavors.”
