Now that the holidays are over and the decorations have all come down it’s time to focus on Winter. Last week I showed how easy it is to create a cozy winter interior using everyday items.
Today I want to share with you an easy winter wreath for your front door. Give your guests a warm welcome before they even ring the doorbell! Be sure to shop your own stash because most, if not all of these things might already be in your possession. If not, keep reading 🙂
I turned to my local thrift store for these finds and created this look for under $10!
What you need:
- Wreath (or wreath form)
- 1-2 winter scarfs
- 2-3 safety pins
- 1 large safety pin (heavy duty one found at Hobby Lobby by the buttons)
- little sprig of pine cones
Look at the soft cream tones, beautiful texture and adorable buttons on this scarf. This project will tie in wonderfully with my interior winter decor.
Let’s get started
I suggest doing this project on a large table or the floor. I used my kitchen table because it’s tall and there is plenty of room. Plus, this project might get messy if you have a straw wreath to work with like I did.
Lay your wreath down and pin one end of the scarf to the wreath. From here, you will begin wrapping the scarf around the wreath form being sure to pull somewhat tightly and spreading it out to smooth any wrinkles. The scarf I used here is made of fleece so there is a little stretch to it allowing me to cover as much of the wreath form as possible.
Even with all of the pulling and smoothing I was left with an 8 inch gap. I pinned down the end and kept moving forward.
Because I was in the moment tying the textured scarf into an award winning center knot I forgot to take a picture! Don’t worry, I’ll share the final look down below.
I did wrestle and re-do the knot a few times to be sure the buttons were visible. In doing so I had a silver dollar size spot of the straw wreath showing. This was the perfect place for the pine cones! I bent the wire a bit and tucked that sucker in.
Next came the large safety pin. I attached this to the back of the wreath creating a “hanging loop”.
Here is the final look! I hung the wreath on this ” target=”_blank”>adjustable wreath hanger. I really like this one because the nickle finish matches the door handle and I can move the wreath up or down depending on it’s size.
You can easily use these tips and create your own winter wreath for your front door. Give your guests that warm welcome as they come up the drive. I’d love to see what you all come up with so be sure to share your creations in the comments section.
