A fast, fun and inexpensive DIY project you can finish in under an hour!
Spring is here! Although we will continue to have a few more snow storms, I’m ready to be done with Winter. So, in my seasonal preparation, I’m sharing with you a simple step by step guide for an impressive DIY Spring wreath! Plus most of the items I used were from the Dollar Tree.
What You Will Need
- Grapevine Wreath
- 12 faux flower stems (I used 6 hyacinth and 6 dahlias from the Dollar Tree)
- Windmill piece from the Dollar Tree, or any other statement piece
- Wreath hanger (also used here)
Let’s Begin
Remove all the tags from the flower stems and push the leaves up towards the bloom. Gently spread the blooms on each stem apart. This allows you to get the fullest flower power from your Dollar Tree flowers!
Tuck Them In
Insert 4 of the stems into your grapevine wreath at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. Not only does this divide your wreath into sections it also helps to guide the balance of the entire look. I chose to insert all of the dahlias and then filled in with the hyacinths. You will want to slightly bend the stems so they don’t protrude out of your wreath. Because I’m using grapevine, I didn’t need to hot glue these down. They were stuck in for the long haul!
Hang and Adjust
Place your wreath on the hanger. Stand back and take a look. I like to take a quick picture with my phone as any abnormalities will immediately stand out. Because the grapevine wreath is organic in nature, it will not be a perfect circle. You may want to lift your wreath and turn clockwise a few times until it hangs just right. Re-position any flowers as needed by bending or pulling out and re-inserting.
Add the Statement Piece
Take your Windmill and gently bend the stake. Because this piece is nesting just inside the opening of the wreath the bend needs to be tighter than the flower stems. Then insert it into your wreath like a fishing hook. It may take a few tries to get the placement just right. I tucked the windmill in just inside and behind the flowers. This will help keep it in place as we get some pretty gusty winds out here.
Final Step
Fluff any leaves or blooms until you are happy with the balance and placement. Take a picture and share it with me! I can’t wait to see your impressive DIY Spring wreath!
P.S. Every time I post a new wreath I’m reminded the front door needs repainting. Any color suggestions?
