The Best Simple Fall Vignettes

One of my favorite ways to decorate for Fall is to create a Fall vignette. I’ve collected my best and simple approaches to adding a touch of the season to a kitchen table, entryway or coffee table. Plus, vignettes can be set just about anywhere and they’re easy to move when needed.

I use old and new & high and low (cost) items to create seasonal decor throughout the year. And with Fall being my favorite season, these came together so easily!

Look around, “shop” your home and check out your own decor stash for the best items to incorporate into your vignette. You might find you have everything you need. Or, you may realize just what you want to add, and simply grab a pumpkin spiced whatever and go on a little shopping trip!

This year I actually took apart one of my favorite repeat Fall floral arrangements. Although I’ve loved using it for 10+ years, it was feeling dated and I knew the different floral picks could be used in a fresh new way. When gathering your items, keep in mind your vignette should have elements of differing heights, textures and colors.

It’s very simple and the ideas are endless, really!

Rule of Thirds

Here I started with the ‘rule of thirds’. This is a simple to follow rule to if you want to maintain an easy, visually pleasing collection. No matter what you are decorating, always remember to mix up the textures! This keeps your eye moving and brings contrast and depth to your look.

Rather than using the same ol’ glass pumpkin (we all have one!) filled with candy, I decided my trifle bowl would work even better. It not only adds height to the group, it also adds an unexpected element. This trio has different textures, yet the color pallete is tight and neutral.

This next vignette technically has 4 items, but the balance of the ‘thirds’ rule is still visible.

I just love the punch of blue and the size this pumpkin brings to this vignette! It certainly adds weight to the right side. So, to balance this I added the taller glass gourd. The two textures and colors play off each other perfectly. And, the white candle and wooden beads ground this entire look and keep it casual.

More can be better

Alright, so you have other goodies you want to add? Try expanding on the tight color pallete idea. Remember the floral arrangement I mentioned above? Well, I dropped one of the picks into a Dollar Tree gourd shaped vase.

Oh my gourd! Look how the gold leaves match the candies and the plush velvet pumpkin! And the brown pinecones pulling from the brown snickers wrappers? What’s not to love? I think Vaughan, our dog, passed out from excitement back there.

Here is a similar take on the vignette above, but without the bowl of candy. To fill that space I brought in my wooden ball, candle and squirrel. The colors here are back to that tight pallet, but the wooden ball matches the weight of the tall glass gourd and introduces a difference in texture.

Final Look

Here is the vignette I finally settled on. Any one of these would have made me happy. But, this one just felt right for this year.

I love the delicate glass, the natural elements of the leaves, wood and pumpkins. Candles always add a warm and comforting vibe and the scent of this one brings the Fall season all together.

You can use just about anything for the base of your vignettes such as trays, plates and baskets. And fill them with what you have on hand or something new. Remember to use different heights, colors and textures and you will have created your best simple Fall vignette!
