Have you ever hosted a party where gifts are exchanged? Did any of those gifts get tossed out with the wrapping paper or left behind? It has happened many times here so I give my guests Gift Totes to help keep it all together. This is an easy and inexpensive hosting tip that you can incorporate into your next get together.
You will want to be sure they are labeled with the names of your families, couples or individuals. This makes it easy to know which bag belongs to whom. You can do this with tags, gift labels or make keepsake wooden ornaments for a personal touch.
How this idea came about
I truly enjoy hosting Christmas at our house. There’s lots of food, drinks, laughter and love. And presents! Because our family is so large, we easily have a minimum of 40 adults/children for any given get together.
Yep. I’ll let that vision sink in for a moment…
Wrapping paper starts flying around and boxes are set down here and there. It’s fun, it’s hectic and it’s entertaining to say the least! It’s also no surprise that some gifts go missing with that amount people exchanging gifts.
So, a few years back I decided to quell any panic that might ensue and give everyone a way to keep it all together.
Hand those totes out
Be sure to get the totes to your guests as soon as possible!
You could fill a basket at your front door and hand them out as you answer it. You could enlist a bored teen or pre-teen to pass them out (expect an eye roll for this ’cause it’s coming!). Or you can make a quick announcement once everyone has arrived explaining your cool new idea!
Your guests now have something practical to keep the ever popular, but small Gift Cards, candles and delicate items safe. Plus at the end of the evening their hands will be full of leftovers, coats, purses, sleepy children, etc.
These also come in handy when one of the kids wants to open up that 1,000,000 piece Lego set or the doll with every accessory known to man. Sure, we could just grab a plastic trash bag. But 1. kids shouldn’t play with those and, 2. these totes are so much more fun and reusable!
This year I’m using this set of totes. I kinda dig that they aren’t Christmas themed (but still fit in with my Christmas color scheme) so our guests can use them everyday. I did order an extra set so I have some on hand for groceries or to use as gift bags for larger items throughout the year.
You can even use one for your overnight guests to fill up with items to take home from your Guestroom Welcome Basket!
A Gift Tote for any Party
These totes are a great idea for any size or type of party you have! Having a Girlfriend’s Gift Exchange? Hosting a birthday party for a special friend? You can find bags to match their taste or party theme for any time of year. Think jute totes for the casual gal, fun animal prints for the animal lover, or snazzy bags for the glam girl. I’ve listed a variety below to get you started.
When hosting or entertaining, you should always find ways to make your guests feel special. This is a simple and inexpensive touch that will elevate your hosting game a notch or two! Your guests may not expect this extra detail. But, they will appreciate it’s thoughtfulness.
